Founders’ Study Abroad Scholarship Application (in honor of Art Adams, JoAnn McCarthy and Dick Wood): Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP) scholarships are in the amount of $500 for summer and $1,000 for semester programs. Students participating in an ICISP program are eligible to apply. The deadline is October 15 for spring programs, February 15 for summer programs, and May 15 for fall programs. Late applications are not accepted.

Boren Award for International Study (NSEP): Boren scholarships fund American undergraduate students as they acquire language skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the security of our nation. (Study in the United States, Western Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand is excluded.) Scholarships vary from $2,500 to $20,000 depending on the length of the program. An 8-week summer STEMS scholarship is also available.

Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship:  Applicants must be receiving a Pell Grant at time of application or prove that they will receive a Pell Grant during the study abroad term. Recipients are awarded up to $5,000 depending on the length of the program. There is a $3,000 supplement for students studying "critical languages." Application deadlines vary based on length of program. Summer programs must include in-country stays of at least 4 weeks.

Fund for Education Award: Scholarships are awarded up to $10,000 for study abroad. Minimum program length is 28 days. Non-traditional study abroad students are encouraged to apply. Deadline for all programs is early January.
 

Critical Language Scholarships aim to increase the number of Americans studying and mastering 14 critical languages through fully-funded summer language institutes. Participants are expected to continue language study beyond the CLS experience and apply the language skills to future academic and professional goals. Application deadline is early November.

BUTEX (British Transatlantic Exchange Association) Scholarships: To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a place as a study abroad in England at an institutional member of the British Transatlantic Exchange Association. Application deadline is May/June, and the value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the student once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

Freeman/Asia ScholarshipUndergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to study in any of 15 countries. Stipends of $3,000 for summer, $5,000 for a semester and $7,000 for a year-long study are available. Application deadline is March (summer) and April (Fall/year-long).
